Nostalgia Hot Rods is a custom hot rod shop at 1196 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, NV 89074, just outside Las Vegas. We build hot rods, street rods, restomods and custom trucks for owners across the country and overseas. Call (702) 369-7037. This page covers what we build, how a build works, and the cars that have come out of our shop.

What we build

Every build is a one off. Some owners bring us a car they already own. Others ask us to build from a car they haven’t found yet. Either way, the car is built around how you want to drive it.

Our work covers full custom builds, classic car restoration, chassis fabrication, suspension, sheet metal, body and paint, and interiors. Most builds use several of those at once.

Everything under one roof

Fabrication, paint and interior are all done in-house, as Street Trucks noted in October 2023. The same team that builds the frame fits the body and paints it.

That’s why we do it this way. A custom car is one design, not a stack of separate jobs. When the frame, the body and the wheels are planned by the same people, they fit.

When a specialist does add something, like the hand made interiors HRH Designs built for our 1963 Corvette and for Atomic ’57, we say so and give them the credit.

Built to be driven

All Chevy Performance said it in June 2024: our builds are meant to be driven, with horsepower, driveability and comfort all taken seriously.

Who builds your car

The shop belongs to Dustin “Bud” Hacker. Street Trucks reported in October 2023 that he started working on cars as a kid, did his first custom build at 19 and opened his own shop at 25. He is self-taught, and he credits his dad for getting him started.

Today the team is more than 10 people, covering fabrication, paint and interiors.

Parts on our builds

A custom car is only as good as the parts under it. These are names that show up again and again on the cars we’ve built, going by the published features on them.

Engines and power: Nelson Racing Engines built the twin turbo 427 in our 1969 Camaro. Whipple superchargers feed our 1957 Bel Air, the WhippleD Chevelle and the Valor C10. Mean Mug runs a 427 FiTech Ford small block.

Chassis and suspension: Detroit Speed under the Camaro, Art Morrison under NightHawk, a TCI frame and RideTech air under Atomic ’57. Brakes on the Camaro are Wilwood six piston calipers.

Wheels: Forgeline on NightHawk, Mean Mug and our Porsche 914, and HRE on the Camaro.

If you’ve seen one of these cars at SEMA or in a magazine and want to know more about it, ask us. It’s the easiest way to start talking about your own build.

Cars from our shop

The best way to judge a builder is by the cars. Here are some of ours, with the source for each one.

Hot rod, street rod or restomod?

People use these words loosely, and that’s fine. Here is how we think about them.

A hot rod is a classic car built for more power and more attitude than it left the factory with. A street rod is a hot rod built to be driven on the street, often an early car with modern running gear. A restomod keeps a classic’s look and modernizes how it drives.

In practice, most of our builds mix all three. What matters is how you want the car to feel when you drive it, and that’s what we ask about first.

Custom trucks fit in too. Classic pickups like Atomic ’57 and Mean Mug get the same chassis, power and finish work as any car we build. If you’re not sure which label fits your idea, that’s fine. Just tell us how you want it to drive.

How a build works

It starts with a call or the quote form. We talk about the car, your plans for it and how you’ll use it: long drives, shows, track days or all of them.

From there we plan the build: engine, chassis, suspension, brakes, body, paint and interior. Then the work moves through our shop.

Our projects typically take 9 to 12 months, as All Chevy Performance reported in June 2024. A build with more custom fabrication takes longer, and we’ll tell you that at the start.

You don’t need to live near Las Vegas. Our builds ship to collectors, racers and enthusiasts across the world. When the car’s done, it ships to you.

Shown at SEMA

We showed 10 vehicles at SEMA 2023, as Motorious reported that November, and our builds were back at SEMA in 2024. SEMA is where other builders and the press look at a car up close.

See a build in detail

Want to see how we lay out a build? Our 1969 Camaro page lists every major part with its source. Our 1957 Chevy Bel Air shows a low, supercharged Tri-Five on its own frame. And our Atomic ’57 is Dustin’s own truck.

Each one started the same way: a conversation about the car and how the owner wanted to drive it.
